The Historian's Craft in the Age of Herodotus

Fifteen scholarly papers, mostly drawn from the 'Dawn of Historiography' workshop held in Turin in 1997, provide highly detailed analyses of the literary and historical context of Greek historiography. Contributors examine the relationship between historiography and oral culture and with early Greek poetry, the development of a concept of the past and chronology, the relationship between history and myth and Herodotus' sources.
