A concise, illustrated guide to England's political, economic and cultural history from the Neolithic to the present day. There is little depth here - the centuries chase each other across the pages - but it does provide an attractive, if basic, introduction to English history through its hillforts, monuments, buildings and kings and queens as well as paintings and manuscripts.
