Euripides' 'Alcestis' presents the ultimate sacrifice, and in so doing, describes what true love is. The play also gives a sense of how fragile life is, and why every day should be seen as a gift rather than a curse or burden. Death is a great mystery. No one knows what truly awaits us in death.
