O'Neill In an Hour

In 1912, a twenty-four-year-old Eugene O'Neill was diagnosed with tuberculosis and sent to a sanitarium. There, O'Neill pondered his recent suicide attempt and his family's struggles with alcohol and drugs. It was there, too, that he decided to be a playwright after spending his days reading great works of literature and drama. Years later, looking back, he wrote Long Day's Journey Into Night, a play that he would complete at the very end of his career.
