The Wheel of Time books are a series of fantasy novels written by James Oliver Rigney Jr. under his pen name Robert Jordan and completed posthumously by Brandon Sanderson, an author of many popular fantasy and science fiction books of his own including Dawnshard, The Way of Kings, and Mistborn. Over the course of 14 books, the saga takes place both in our past and our future as a large case of characters tells the story of Rand al'Thor who’s destined to face the Evil One and save the world--or destroy it in the process. The series details an imaginary world with magic and a ton of characters (there are over 200 characters in the first Wheel of Time book, The Eye of the World, alone! ). Readers often compare The Wheel of Time series to The Lord of the Rings for its world building, engaging plot, and detailed descriptions.
